Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Mayo Backwater.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

496 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will remove the backwater from an Office of Public Works drain area in an area (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if they will remove or widen the bridge in this area. [2061/01]

The drain in question is on a scheduled channel of the Moy catchment drainage scheme and is maintainable by the Commissioners of Public Works. I am advised that the commissioners will undertake a survey to ascertain the maintenance requirement as soon as conditions permit, probably in April of this year.

The bridge was constructed during the Moy catchment drainage scheme works as a replacement for the then existing bridge on the through road between Ardhoom and Meelick, County Mayo. Responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the bridge remained with Mayo County Council on completion of the works. Consequently, responsibility for removing or widening the bridge rests with the local authority.
