Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Taxi Regulations.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

190 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to extend the use of bus lanes to hackney drivers, particularly for cars used as part of the school transport scheme or servicing areas where no taxi service is available. [3124/01]

Full access to bus lanes is permitted at present only to omnibuses and large public service vehicles. Pedal cycles and taxis may use "with flow" bus lanes. Hackneys, as private hire vehicles, have not been permitted to use bus lanes given their more limited service role which does not involve publicly standing or plying for hire. There are no proposals at this time to extend further the use of bus lanes to hackneys.
