Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

122 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the progress on the creation of a greater Dublin transport authority; and the way in which the Public Transport Procurement Agency and public transport regulation body fit into its remit. [3034/01]

The Cabinet committee on infrastructure development and private partnerships is looking at possible changes in the institutional arrangements relating to transport in the greater Dublin area. The committee is considering how better co-ordination can be achieved in relation to strategic land use planning, transportation planning and the regulation of public transport.

The precise nature of the relationship between the new body and the Railway Procurement Agency will be decided when the regulatory functions to be granted to the new body have been finalised. It is intended that the Railway Procurement Agency will be subject to obligations which will ensure that transparency and coherence obtains in the regulatory framework for public transport.
