123 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if the sale of the assets and liabilities of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation Limited can be completed before the passing of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation Limited Bill. [3127/01]
The transaction in question cannot be completed in the absence of legislation, as I stated in response to earlier questions on 14 November and 12 December last. The Deputy may be aware of an announcement at the weekend that the purchaser involved in the negotiations may be acquired by another major oil company and I am assessing urgently with advisers what, if any, are the implications of this development for the proposed transaction.
