Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Collection.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

212 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Finance if tax deductions for a person (details supplied) in County Limerick are appropriate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4962/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer and her husband are jointly assessed for income tax. Their income consists of a farm retirement pension and income from the lease of their farm land. The first £6,000 of the taxpayers' income from the lease of the farm land is exempt from income tax. The taxpayers' agent has claimed that exemption in their return of income for the 1999-2000 tax year. The taxpayers' income from the lease of their land, except for the first £6,000 which is exempt from income tax, and their retirement pension is subject to income tax in the normal way.
