106 Mr. Hayes asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her Department has received a request from the youth employment summit to have the next summit in November 2002 hosted here in view of the importance of this summit in highlighting the issue of youth employment; if she will favourably consider this request; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I have not received a request regarding a youth employment summit. I understand that a person or persons may be in correspondence with the Minister of State at the Department of Education and Science regarding this.
Youth unemployment has declined from more than 23.3% in 1994 to less than 7.3% based on the most recently published third quarter 2000 QNHS. Furthermore, substantial measures as notified in the recently launched employment and human resources development operational programme on the development of young persons relate to the areas of education and training.
