Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Environmental Impact Study.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

202 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Finance if he has received the cost benefit analysis and environmental impact study on the river Nanny, County Galway; if so, the status of these reports; if funding will now be provided to complete the drainage on the river Nanny which started 40 years ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5935/01]

The cost benefit analysis in relation to draining the River Nanny was received by the Commissioners of Public Works last year. A draft environmental impact study report was received in December. The draft report has been evaluated by the commissioners and they have raised a number of issues with the consultants involved regarding its contents. The commissioners expect to have a response from the consultants shortly. When the final report of the environmental impact study has been considered, in conjunction with the cost benefit analysis, a decision will be taken in relation to proceeding with drainage of the Nanny.
