Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

224 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps being taken to deal with delays in urology services for children at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin 12 (details supplied). [5525/01]

Services for eligible patients at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, are provided under an arrangement with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. I asked the regional chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to forward a report to me. This is now to hand.

The ERHA wrote to the hospital on 17 January 2001 advising of its concerns regarding the urology programme. The authority raised the need to meet the expectations of children on a waiting list and their families regarding the timeframe for treatment. The authority states that the measures, in Crumlin or elsewhere, to expedite the treatment of those in urgent need of urology surgery are a matter of priority. The ERHA will notify the Deputy of the outcome of these deliberations as soon as possible.
