Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

226 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider a comprehensive and, if necessary, cross-departmental approach to the needs of disabled children, especially as the approach applied by a group (details supplied) seems to be cost effective and need effective. [5527/01]

I am aware of the excellent work which is being undertaken by the group in question in providing support to families with children with significant disabilities. Officials from my Department have met representatives of the group in question and have also asked the health boards, which have responsibility for the provision of health related support services to these families, to liaise with this group in order to co-ordinate and maximise the supports available to them. If there are issues related to areas which are the responsibility of other Departments with which I can be of assistance, I will certainly follow these up if the relevant information is forwarded to me.
