Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

264 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons for the delay in providing a report from the OT in relation to a disabled person's grant application by a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who requires the family home to be modified for her son (details supplied) following an accident. [5984/01]

The provision of housing modification grants for people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Department of the Environment and Local Government and they are provided through the relevant local authority. Health boards are involved with these grants to the extent that an assessment of the individual case must be carried out by an occupational therapist from the health board in order for the grant to be approved. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
