Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

325 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when an application for carers allowance by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved and paid. [5996/01]

The person concerned applied for a carer's allowance on 15 December 2000. She was refused carer's allowance as it was decided that she does not provide full-time care and attention to the pensioners concerned and her weekly means exceed the statutory limit.

She was notified on 20 February 2001 of this decision, the reasons for it and of her right to appeal to the Social Welfare Appeals Office.

Under social welfare legislation decisions regarding claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
