Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Legislation.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

340 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she intends to make provision in the Broadcasting Bill, 1999, for the incorporation of compensatory provisions following future adoption of an EU directive on must-carry obligations placed on cable and MMDS providers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5446/01]

The Broadcasting Bill, 1999, makes no express reference to compensation for cable television and MMDS operators in respect of must-carry services. The ongoing regulation of cable and MMDS is a matter for the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation.
