Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

388 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will have an application by a person (details supplied) in County Carlow expedited. [5988/01]

The applicant arrived in the State on 22 June 1998. Following an interview, his application for refugee status was refused. He subsequently appealed this decision and the independent Refugee Appeals Authority recommended that the appeal be refused.

The applicant was then informed on 10 October 2000 that it was proposed to make a deportation order in respect of him. He was given the opportunity to either leave the State voluntarily, consent to a deportation order or to make representations as to why he should not be deported. Representations have been received from his legal representatives and from several other individuals. I understand that the case file of the person referred to is due to be submitted to me for a decision in the near future.
