Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

389 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current status of an application by a person (details supplied) in the Ukraine; and when the application will be approved. [5989/01]

Records held in the immigration division of my Department indicate that an application for a visit visa from the person referred to was refused on 25 July 2000. The application was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied, that the applicant's visit would be genuinely short term in nature. Insufficient information was supplied relating to the applicant's commitments in her country of residence as well as to the nature and purpose of her visit. My Department has no record of having received a more recent application.

It is open to the applicant to appeal against the decision by writing to the visa appeals officer together with further information or documentation in support of the application. Given the length of time which has elapsed, it would also be important that the appeal should update any information provided previously.
