Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

390 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is now in a position to provide details of the number of prosecutions taken by the Garda under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000, against publicans for the sale of alcohol to minors; the location of the premises; the outcome in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6051/01]

I am informed by Garda authorities that, to date, six licensed premises have had temporary closure orders made against them under the provisions of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000. Two of these premises are in County Galway and one each in Mayo, Roscommon, Tipperary and Kerry. The closure orders were made for periods of between three and 14 days. I understand that a number of these orders are under appeal. I am also informed that the Garda are pursuing cases in respect of another 80 premises nationwide.
