Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

392 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when a grant will be allocated to Shandon-North Cathedral Community Association in order that it can complete the Jack Lynch community resource centre at 11 Eason's Avenue, Shandon, County Cork. [5423/01]

I allocated a grant of £10,000 to this project under the 1999 sports capital programme, of which £9,500 has been drawn down. Under the terms and conditions of the programme, 5% of the total grant allocation, in this case £500, is retained pending confirmation from the organisation's technical supervisor that work on the project has been completed satisfactorily. Once this confirmation is received, the remainder of the grant will be paid.

The organisation applied unsuccessfully for a grant under the 2000 sports capital programme. The deadline for receipt of applications for the 2001 sports capital programme was 9 February last. No application was received for this project under the programme.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

393 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if a project (details supplied) in County Donegal can commence works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5439/01]

The club in question was provisionally allocated a grant in the amount of £70,000 under the 1999 sports capital programme, subject to the terms and conditions of the programme. The final documentation in relation to this project, which was received from the club on 12 February 2001, has been forwarded for approval to the Office of Public Works. As soon as this approval is received, the organisation will be informed by my Department that the contract may be placed with the lowest tenderer.
