Ceist:

591 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if an official application has yet been received by his Department from Kilkenny Corporation for the provision of an alternative swimming pool in Kilkenny; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the present pool is constantly being closed to the public; and if he will arrange to have finance made available under the national development plan to have an alternative pool provided at the earliest date. Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid):

Following the completion of a feasibility study on swimming pool provision in Kilkenny, the corporation decided to construct a new pool rather than refurbish the existing pool. The Department has approved the appointment of consultants for the preliminary report stage of this proposal which is being considered under the Department's local authority swimming pool programme. Further consideration will be given to the proposal when this report is available.

There are four stages in a swimming pool project – preliminary report stage, contract document stage, tender stage and construction stage and grant aid is not allocated to any project until such time as tenders are received.
