Ceist:318 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the schools in County Sligo that have asbestos; when it will be removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8621/01]
Written Answers. - Asbestos Removal.
A programme to identify and remove asbestos from all primary and post-primary schools is currently being carried out by the Office of Public Works for my Department. Testing is being carried out on a regional basis and it is envisaged that the schools in County Sligo will be examined later this year.
In the meantime, schools where major works are currently being undertaken are being advised to contact the Office of Public Works to arrange a test for asbestos. The procedure in relation to minor works was outlined to all primary schools in circular 4/00 – a grant scheme for minor works to all school properties.
