Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - IDA Properties.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

66 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the property IDA Ireland has for leasing in County Mayo; the property IDA Ireland has leased but which has not been occupied yet; the payment rate for the lease or leases concerned; if she will supply a list of properties that are available for business to lease from IDA Ireland, giving details for each town and area in County Mayo. [8739/01]

The management of the industrial property portfolio of IDA Ireland is a statutory function of the agency as laid out in section 16 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986, and, accordingly, the provision and marketing of industrial development land is a day to day matter for IDA Ireland and not one in which I have a direct function.

In line with IDA Ireland's strategy to achieve a more equitable distribution of inward investment, the agency evaluates on a regular basis the industrial property requirements in regional locations.
I understand that IDA Ireland's industrial property holdings in County Mayo are those listed below IDA space available leased from private developers: 22,605 sq. ft. factory in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, available at £3.22 per square foot. IDA Ireland owned space available to lease: 3,606 sq. ft. unit in Ballina available at £3.50 per square foot.
In addition, I further understand that there are a number of buildings which are owned by the private sector and are available for lease in County Mayo. IDA Ireland would be involved in the promotion of these properties to suitable inward investment projects, but are not involved in the leasing arrangements with the owners. These properties are: 34,000 sq. ft. in Bunree Industrial Estate, Ballina, former Roware building; 75,000 sq. ft. in Ballina, former Henniges building; 60,000 sq. ft. in Killala, former Asahi building.
I am also informed that consultants have been appointed by IDA Ireland to develop approximately 21 acres in Castlebar into a business park for which four office buildings are currently being designed.
I wish to assure the Deputy that IDA Ireland will intensify its focused and committed promotion of County Mayo for suitable inward investment projects to fill the industrial property which is currently available.
