Vol. 534 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy O'Shea – the implications for the future of the post office network of the Flynn report; (2) Deputy Ó Caoláin – the need to provide full funding for the new building to house Gaelscoil Róis, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan; (3) Deputy Flanagan – the need to persuade banks to abandon a recently introduced practice of refusing to cash third party cheques; (4) Deputy Fleming – the need for increasing investment levels in the railway service; (5) Deputy Perry – the need for a feasibility study to be carried out to establish the prospect of the reopening of the Collooney to Claremorris railway line as a working part of the Sligo to Limerick route; (6) Deputy Timmins – the requirement to immediately install a CCTV system in Bray, County Wicklow; (7) Deputy Keaveney – the need for communications infrastructure, including fibreoptic and digital lines, to be laid to Buncrana, County Donegal; (8) Deputy McGrath – the costs associated with producing and printing the eight page newspaper Budget 2001 – Update; (9) Deputy Rabbitte – the implications for Stadium Ireland of the Government intention to give substantial grants to the GAA and the manner and timing of the announcement; (10) Deputy Quinn – the need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment to meet a delegation from the Tullamore task force to discuss proposals to address the growing problems of employment in the area; (11) Deputy Sheehan – the urgent need for the establishment of safety days for the forthcoming salmon fishing season, thereby protecting the lives of salmon fishermen operating small craft along the seaboard; (12) Deputy Ring – the up to date position of the working group set up to advise the Government on the formulation of procedures and guidelines to deal with abuse of the elderly; (13) Deputy Dukes – the claim by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands that the rehabilitation of seals does not fall within the terms of the Wildlife Act, 1976, but is a matter of animal welfare, and the necessity, therefore, for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to make an annual grant to the Irish Seal Sanctuary to support its work; (14) Deputy Enright – the need to provide adequate employment and job opportunities in the south-west Offaly area where there is a very high level of unemployment; (15) Deputy Naughten – the need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to immediately take action, including the introduction of emergency legislation, to ensure the full implementation of the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulations regulatory framework for access to the mobile phone market in light of the threatened loss of more than 300 jobs at Cellular 3 and the withdrawal of a £500 million pound investment in the Midlands region; and (16) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe – the disastrous consequences for the development of Passage West, County Cork, of the Comah/Sueso II Directive.

The matters raised by Deputies Quinn, Perry, Flanagan and McGrath have been selected for discussion.
