Vol. 534 No. 3

Written Answers. - Research Grants.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

303 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 431 of 3 April 2001, he will give a breakdown on the grants paid by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences to individual students or researchers via their parent institutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10552/01]

Provisional data for grants paid by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences in 2000 are set out in the following table. As in the case of other measures in my Department's programme to support third level research under the National Development Plan 2000-2006, funding is allocated on a competitive basis having regard to the excellence and quality of the proposals received.
