Ceist:142 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has to allow An Post and credit unions to administer the new national savings scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10732/01]
Written Answers. - National Savings Scheme.
In section 33 of the Finance Act, 2001, I have provided, inter alia, for a range of persons who can be the manager of a special savings incentive account. These include both An Post and the credit unions. It is a matter for any savings manager eligible under the Act to decide whether or not to offer a SSIA product. The NTMA has confirmed to me that it will be making a SSIA product(s) available through An Post. The provision of a SSIA product by the credit unions is a matter for them.
