Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - National Heritage.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

80 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on the Heritage Council document, Heritage Appraisal of Development Plans; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10698/01]

The document in question, the full title of which is Heritage Appraisal of Development Plans – A Methodology for Planning Authorities was produced by the Heritage Council further to an undertaking to prepare such a methodology in its policy paper on the role of the Heritage Council in the planning process published in April 1999. As such the document, as stated therein, is "designed to enable planning authorities to undertake heritage appraisal themselves and to contribute to better informed decision-making in the formulation of land-use planning policies". I welcome the publication of the document, which is essentially a methodology proposed to planning authorities, as a valuable contribution to the conservation of our national heritage.
