Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - Cromien Report.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

103 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress to date on the implementation of the Cromien report; and the timescale proposed for its completion. [12314/01]

Immediately on receiving Mr. Cromien's report on my Department's operations, systems and staffing needs, I established a high level departmental task force to prepare a blueprint for implementation of the report.

The task force has now submitted proposals for the implementation of a series of time critical measures, designed to increase my Department's capacity to focus on core functions while at the same time improving the quality of provision at ground level. I am currently considering these proposals and I expect to be in a position to bring measures to Government shortly.
In addition to these key recommendations, my Department is also putting in place a further range of efficiency measures as proposed in Mr. Cromien's report. These measures include putting into regulatory form the procedures and process underpinning key allocation functions, new internal structures and consideration of functions such as the school transport service.
Question No. 104 answered with Question No. 50.
