Vol. 535 No. 3

Written Answers - Motor Insurance Report.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

79 Mr. Flanagan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she expects the final report of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board; and the steps she proposes to take to facilitate early completion and publication. [12592/01]

The Motor Insurance Advisory Board recognised, when it prepared its interim report, that the data available to it on insurance premiums and claims at that time was incomplete.

Recently the board agreed with the insurance industry to allow the industry a reasonable length of time in order for it to provide data as complete as possible. The board's statistician will analyse the data and this requires time.

The board's final report, including recommendations, is expected by the end of this year. In the light of the recommendations, I will take what further action is appropriate at that time.
