The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.
However, in accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of RTE's national broadcasting services.
RTE reports that good quality reception of TG4 is generally available in the Achill area from its local transmitter. However, RTE states that unfortunately, Owenduff and parts of Tonragee cannot receive TG4 from the Achill transmitter because they are shadowed by a local hill. RTE advises that viewers wishing to receive TG4 in this area should have a UHF aerial and mast-head amplifier installed for RTE's Sligo transmitter. Viewers in the area may wish to consider this advice. However, anyone contemplating this type of installation should satisfy themselves that the equipment will be effective in the individual case.
