Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

266 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide an update on the application from a school (details supplied) in Dublin 11 for major capital works; the extent of the works approved; and the expected timescale for their completion. [12890/01]

The authorities of the school referred to by the Deputy have been advised by my Department to proceed to the next stage of the architectural planning process for the proposed extension and refurbishment works to the school. It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

267 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science when construction of the physical education hall, staff room, car park and so on at Mullingar Community College, County Westmeath will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12985/01]

The building unit of my Department approved, in principle, improvement works at Mullingar community college, including the provision of car parking, office and reception facilities and lift installation. The building unit is awaiting a cost plan for all these works from County Westmeath VEC.

In relation to the provision of a sports hall at the college, approval in principle has also been given for this project. My Department is currently preparing PE hall templates. These will standardise the construction of PE halls at second level schools and will reduce the architectural planning processes considerably. The templates are being piloted in four schools initially and are expected to be available later this year for generic use.

A combined stage one, two and three submission of my Department's design team procedures was submitted to the building unit of my Department in respect of the project at the school to which the Deputy refers. This submission is being assessed.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

269 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give an update on the school extension project at Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12997/01]

The building unit of my Department has received stage three, developed sketch scheme, of my Department's design team procedures in relation to the extension project at Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, County Louth. This is now being reviewed within the building unit, who will be in contact with County Louth VEC in due course.

270 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education and Science when he expects approval for tenders for St. Laurence's college project, Drogheda, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12998/01]

The building unit of my Department is currently examining the stage six submission, that is, the tender report, in relation to the building project at St. Laurence's college, Drogheda, County Louth. A decision in this matter is expected shortly.
