Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

264 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate a special needs assistant for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [12852/01]

My Department's inspectorate has recently received a request for special needs assistant support for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. This application is being considered by the inspectorate. As soon as the inspectorate's report has been received, my Department will be in touch with the school authorities in relation to the matter.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

265 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in relation to an application for a classroom assistant for a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12853/01]

I understand the child in question is attending a recently established special class for children with autism. The class is currently catering for three children and has the support of a teacher and two full-time special needs assistants.

The school has applied for a further special needs assistant to be dedicated to the needs of the child. This application will be considered by my Department in the context of enrolments in the special class for the forthcoming school year.
