Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Cancer Treatment Services.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

100 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children his Department's concerns in relation to cancer in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area; the plans he has to highlight the problems in relation to cancer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13401/01]

Additional funding of £6.155 million has been made available to the Eastern Regional Health Authority by my Department in the current year for the development of cancer services. This brings the total sum provided to the ERHA area under the national cancer strategy to a total of £16.832 million. My Department is currently awaiting proposals in relation to the authority's plans for the further development of cancer services. I have already indicated to the House that I am prepared to sympathetically consider such proposals when they are received. In line with Government policy, I am fully committed to the enhancement of patient care and the further development of cancer treatment and care services.
