Vol. 536 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

189 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress which has been made by the Garda in the investigation of complaints by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14345/01]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the local detective unit made inquiries into the matter referred to by the Deputy and liaised with the complainants and a builder, who was the subject of the complaint. Following these enquiries the builder undertook in February 2001 to complete work on the complainants' house as soon as he had completed another job. I understand the complainants declined at the time of the initial complaint to make a written statement to the Garda.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that in March 2001 the complainants made further representations stating that the work had not yet been completed. The complainants were revisited by the Garda and have now made a written statement. I understand the statement is being examined with a view to establishing whether any breaches of Criminal Law have occurred.
