Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

305 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will take steps to ensure the rear of a persons home (details supplied) in Dublin 12 is fully secured. [14662/01]

Waterways Ireland, a North-South Implementation Body for inland waterways, was established on 2 December 1999 on foot of the Agreement and was assigned the functions of management, maintenance, development and restoration of certain inland navigable waterways systems throughout the island, principally for recreational purposes.

I understand from Waterways Ireland that the question of securing of the property boundary of the person referred to by the Deputy arose in connection with development on an adjacent property and is a matter which may be resolved between the owner of both properties. There was also encroachment onto canal property by the developer. This is a separate issue and Waterways Ireland informs me that it is pressing the developer to complete the reinstatement of canal property.
