Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

172 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason work has not proceeded to date on the provision of a primary school for Littlepace, Castaheney; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16407/01]

Architectural planning is proceeding for the provision of the permanent school building at Littlepace, Castaheney.

The rate of progress to construction depends on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the time required to undertake architectural planning, the volume of other projects being dealt with by the design team and my Department's building unit, the period of time required for the granting of planning permission and obtaining a fire certificate, the availability of funding, the outcome of the tender competition and the procurement where relevant of bonds, insurance and tax clearance by prospective contractors.

The Deputy will appreciate, therefore, that it is not possible to say at this point when construction of the permanent school building will commence.

Architectural planning for the provision of temporary accommodation for the school is at an advanced stage and it will be provided as quickly as possible.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

173 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when provision for outdoor sports facilities at St. Wolstan's community school, Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare, will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16408/01]

Outdoor sports facilities in the form of four basketball courts have been provided in conjunction with the new school at St. Wolstan's community school, Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare.

In addition, I have committed funding for the provision of a hockey pitch on the site and the project design team are currently preparing tender documents for this proposal. As soon as the tender package is completed the question of inviting tenders for the project will be considered.
