Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Sean Fleming

Ceist:

509 Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the grants approved and grants paid by his Department to an organisation (details supplied) and any other organisation involved in motor sport here for each of the years 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. [16710/01]

My Department approved and paid grants in the years 1997, 1998 and 1999 in respect of motor sport, including to individuals involved with the sport, as follows:

Grant scheme for National Governing Bodies of Sport

Royal Automobile Association

£34,348 (1997)

International Carding Scheme (1998)

Royal Automobile Association

£12,298 (1998)

Sporting Ambassador Scheme 1998

Damien Faulkner

£20,000 (1998)

Sarah Kavanagh

£20,000 (1998)

Eddie Jordan

£100,000 (1999)

With its establishment on a statutory footing from 1 July 1999, the Irish Sports Council has responsibility for operating the grant scheme for national governing bodies of sport, and the international carding scheme. Accordingly, any information required regarding the allocation of funding to the organisation in question since that date should be sought from the Irish Sports Council.
