Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Service.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

223 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider it appropriate that a courier service be made available to general practitioners to transfer blood samples from general practitioners' surgeries to hospitals (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18555/01]

The issue raised by the Deputy is a normal operational matter. I have been informed that an initiative involving the Northern Area Health Board and doctors in the north city partnership provides for the collection of samples from surgeries and their transportation to the hospital laboratory for analysis.

I have referred the matter to the NAHB's chief executive officer. I have asked her to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
