Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

407 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if complaints regarding an off licence at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 7 have been received; if the Garda will consider objecting to the renewal of the licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19595/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the off-licence at the location in question was the subject of a Garda caution two years ago in relation to the sale of cider to underage youths.

However, I am further informed that, to date, the proprietor has co-operated fully with inspecting members of the Garda Síochána, that no complaints are recorded at the Bridewell Garda Station regarding this off-licence and that no Garda objections to the renewal of the licence are currently being considered.

Ceist:

408 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, arising from the recent change in the by-laws on drinking alcohol in public places, the Garda has taken action regarding crowds drinking outside public houses in the environs of Croke Park, Dublin on match days. [19596/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that local members of the Garda Síochána, including the superintendent at Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station, have actively engaged with the licensees of public houses trading in the vicinity of Croke Park. I understand that local Garda management has advised several licensees to be more pro-active in curtailing their patrons from drinking outside their premises.
