Applications for certificates of naturalisation from the persons referred to were received in my Department on 11 August 2000.
As I have informed the House in response to several recent questions, additional resources have been assigned to the citizenship area of my Department with the result that the processing time has been reduced from over two years at the start of the year to just over 18 months at this point. I expect that further progress will be made in this regard over the coming months with the result that the applications from the persons in question should be finalised before the year's end. As soon as full consideration has been given to the applications, I will advise the applicants and the Deputy of my decision.
