Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Citizenship Applications.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

415 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will issue a certificate for post-nuptial citizenship to a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19652/01]

The processing of applications by persons resident outside of the island of Ireland is administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs through its embassies and consular offices. When the initial processing has been completed at the embassy or consular office, the file is forwarded to the Department of Foreign Affairs here in Dublin for final processing before transmission to this Department for the issue of a certificate of citizenship.

A declaration of acceptance of post nuptial citizenship as Irish citizenship was lodged by the person referred to by the Deputy at the Irish Embassy in Rome on 27 February, 2001. I am advised that a letter of acceptance of the declaration, which incorporates a request for the statutory fee to be sent to this Department, was issued from the Department of Foreign Affairs on 20th June, 2001. A certificate confirming Irish citizenship will be issued shortly after receipt of the statutory fee.
