Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - CABAS Project.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

462 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has met with the CABAS group who wish to establish a CABAS unit at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5; if he will approve this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19562/01]

I have had a number of meetings with representatives of the group in question. I also arranged for officials from my Department to meet with representatives of the group on Friday, 29 June 2001. Arising from this meeting, proposals for the development of special dedicated provision for children with autism at the school in question, incorporating an applied behavioural analysis element, have been put to the group for consideration. The representatives of the group have undertaken to consider the proposals put forward by my Department and to respond to these proposal in the coming days. The arrangements which have been proposed will result in the delivery of a very satisfactory response to the educational needs of the children in question.
