The issues involved in the industrial action by members of the ASTI were examined in great detail by the Labour Court who issued recommendations for the resolution of the dispute.
The ASTI rejected the Labour Court recommendations and have deferred consideration of future action on their 30% pay claim until September.
In the meantime, my Department is in negotiation with the other teacher unions on the issues of supervision and substitution. Although the issues of supervision and substitution were highlighted during the dispute, the ASTI have refused to become involved in the present discussions. Negotiations on the supervision and substitution issues are on-going.
