Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

453 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of applications in each health board area which have been finalised for persons over 70 years of age who qualified for a medical card from 1 July 2001; the number of general practitioners who did not have a GMS list who have registered to attend to persons over 70 years of age who have now qualified for a medical card; if the Irish Medical Organisation has agreed all outstanding measures with the Department of Health and Children concerning the introduction of the medical card for persons over 70 years of age; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21303/01]

Information on the statistics required by the Deputy are not routinely available in my Department. However they are being recorded at health board level. Accordingly, I have referred the matter to them and will forward the information as soon as it is available to us.

There are no unresolved matters outstanding between my Department and the Irish Medical Organisation on this issue.
