Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Operating Costs.

John Perry

Ceist:

1017 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress he has made to reconsider his decision regarding the installation of hand dryers in Ransboro national school, County Sligo; when the school will receive a payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21228/01]

The planning and building unit of my Department has re-examined the position relating to the installation of hand dryers and for the reasons outlined in my reply of 3 July 2001 to a similar parliamentary question, I regret that it is not possible to change the existing policy on the matter. The position taken by my Department is in the interests first and foremost of the children and also the boards of management which must ultimately manage the day-to-day operating costs of schools.
