Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Ceist:

1018 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint an additional resource teacher to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 6W to help the school cope with students with special needs; and if the school will receive a speech therapy service. [21229/01]

Schools seeking resource teacher support are required to make application through their local inspector. All such applications are required to be accompanied by supporting evidence of the special needs of the pupils involved. I understand that no application for additional resource teacher support has been received by the inspectorate in respect of the school to which the Deputy refers. However, any such application will be fully considered by my Department. Responsibility for the provision of speech therapy services rests with the relevant health authority.
