Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

1029 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request for a resource teacher to be shared between four national schools (details supplied) in County Cork; if these schools meet the criteria used by his Department in determining such allocations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21295/01]

I am aware of the application referred to by the Deputy. My Department's primary inspectorate is currently investigating the application for resource teaching support for the pupils in question. Once the Inspectorate has reported, my officials will be in contact with the authorities of the schools concerned.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1030 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the length of time special needs assistants in primary schools have been paid at a different rate to those in post-primary schools; and if arrears will be paid to those in primary schools. [21299/01]

Following a review, a revised pay structure and conditions of service were introduced for special needs assistants employed in approved posts in second level schools with effect from 1 September 2001. The new pay structure is now in line with the structure applied to special needs assistants in primary schools from that date. Arrears of pay are not due in this case.
