1116 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a proposal for the establishment of an autism specific unit to be affiliated with Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts, Wexford; if a decision on this proposal will be made by his Department in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am aware that a proposal for the establishment of an autism specific unit, to be affiliated with the school referred to by the Deputy, has been received in my Department. The proposal is one of a number of similar proposals for the development of services for children with autism, which are being examined in my Department. Officials of my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as a decision has been made in this regard.
