Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

498 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the European Union funding which is being made available towards the Dublin Port tunnel; the proportion of the total cost it represents; the way in which this compares with the funding from the European Union originally projected for the project; and the reason the proportion of funding from the European Union originally projected has not been realised. [26231/01]

The construction costs of the Dublin Port tunnel are being met from the Exchequer provisions for national roads and no EU funding is involved. European Union funding, through the Cohesion Fund, was applied for and made available towards the planning and design costs of the project. The amount of aid sought and paid was 5,849,700. The final payment was received in January 1999.
