Vol. 543 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

33 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the proposals she has to designate the River Liffey and its tributaries as special areas of conservation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25459/01]

I refer the Deputy to my reply of 5 July 2001, the substance of which has not changed in the intervening time.

Although it has been concluded in the selection process that the River Liffey does not meet the required standard for proposal as a candidate special area of conservation, the Deputy should be aware that there are existing cSACs which cover part of the headwaters – Wicklow Mountains cSAC 2122 – and a tributary – Rye Water Valley-Carton, County Kildare cSAC 001398 – of the River Liffey.

Question No. 34 answered with Question No. 25.
