Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Lotto Terminals.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

253 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if a business (details supplied) in County Mayo will be granted a lotto terminal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27537/01]

While I as Minister for Finance have overall responsibility for the national lottery, I am not involved in the day-to-day commercial matters of the company. However, I have made inquiries and the company have informed me that the national lottery local area representative visited the applicant approximately six months ago. An assessment of the application was carried out at the time. However, the application was unsuccessful. The Deputy may be assured that the applicant's qualification for appointment received every consideration with regard to the relevant criteria for appointment. It is normal procedure to allow between six to 12 months between assessment and reassessment. The national lottery company will arrange that the application for a lottery agency is reassessed early in the new year.
