Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

152 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount which was spent in his Department from June 1997 to December 2001 for media purposes and advertising; if he will categorise where the money was spent; the amount spent of a year to year basis; and the money which was spent on videos, whether for promotional, educational or advertising purposes. [2088/02]

The expenditure incurred by my Department's media and information unit in respect of advertising, including the water safety campaign in 2000 and 2001, is set out in the following table.

Year

(52,348.87)

1998

194,261.75

1999

(423,181.04)

My Department contributed 10,347.54 or £8,149.35 towards the cost of an educational video on shipboard training of marine cadets, entitled "Imagine A Career", in March 2000. In addition, an amount of 278.87 or £219.63 was expended on a video of the public meeting at the Corrib gas seminar on 25 July 2001.
It would not be practicable, given the amount of work which would be necessary, to give a detailed breakdown by medium of the expenditu
re on advertising.

John Bruton

Ceist:

153 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if in the past three months, he has decided to move aspects of the public capital programme expenditure of his Department into a public private partnership provision; if so, his plans in this regard; the reasons for the decision; and the implications of this decision for the categorisation of the expenditure in question under the stability and growth pact of Ireland for participation in the European single currency. [2208/02]

No decisions have been made to establish public private partnerships, PPPs, in respect of capital expenditure programmes coming within the aegis of my Department. While the scope for such partnerships is limited in the marine and natural resources sectors my Department is at present examining the policy framework for public private partnerships which was published in November last with a view to assessing the appropriateness of PPPs to infrastructural projects in those sectors.
