Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

595 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for orthodontic treatment. [2096/02]

Responsibility for the provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo rests with the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly. As the Deputy is aware, the special housing aid scheme for the elderly is operated by the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority on behalf of the Department of the Environment and Local Government. My Department has made inquiries of Western Health Board and has been informed that the board has decided to carry out the improvements requested without any charge to the applicant. Tenders are currently being sought in this regard and he will be notified when a contractor has been selected.
