Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

623 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if the review of the mobility allowance undertaken in 2001 has been completed; if so, if the ruling which prohibits people over the age of 66 years from receiving the allowance will be abolished; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2125/02]

At the request of my Department, a working group consisting of health board representatives has been examining the disability-related allowances which come under the aegis of my Department and are administered by the health boards. I understand that the group's work is at an advanced stage. When it has submitted its report to my Department, it will be considered in consultation with the Department of Finance in the context of the many competing demands for resources within the health services.
